President's Message

By Bill Samples, President

It has been a busy month for the Chartwell Community Association Board. In late January, we were able to fully approve the fiscal year 2012 budget based upon your returned ballots. In addition, we nominated and elected board members to various positions on the Board of Directors and committees. Please refer to page 4 for the complete list of members and positions. Unfortunately, we lack enough volunteers to seat every position and will have to resolve issues "on the fly" on those committees as they come up. If you are interested in helping out, even on a very limited basis, please feel free to contact me at president@chartwellca.org.

Did you know that 2011 marks the 50th anniversary of Chartwell? The CCA Board is working to plan several events in celebration of this milestone and is also working with Chartwell Golf and Country Club on some joint events. Events under consideration include a celebratory picnic, 5K walk/run race, and possible fundraiser.

As we move forward this year, there are several things of interest the CCA Board will be working on. First, we will still be working on the covenant revisions and making a last attempt to get the approvals necessary to make the revisions that were proposed. We received a good response from the last newsletter request, so we thank you for completing the form. A full list of approvals has been compiled and cross referenced to the various sections of Chartwell, so we can better ascertain which areas are close to approving and which areas need further investigation. In addition, planning will begin on revitalizing the St. Ives island and making that entrance more welcoming. Both main entrances have had major landscaping overhauls the past two years and seem to be maintaining quite well despite some sprinkler issues. We’ll also be reviewing our financial status and putting plans in place to keep the community on good fiscal grounds for the long-term. Finally, we’ll be looking to expand the social activities for the community.

I wanted to say thank you to a few board members. First to Susie Johnson for organizing the holiday decorations on the entrance monuments this year. Many residents have expressed a desire to see lights in addition to the garland. With working electricity now at the monuments she was able to accommodate the requests. A second thank you goes out to Mark Lewis for helping put out the decorations on a very cold and blustery morning. Finally, to John Schneider for all of his hard work on editing the Newsletter the last few years. Your efforts on the Compass were a big help to the community!

Thank you,
Bill Samples, President
